Although a wedding is about joining you and your fiance in holy matrimony, to live happily ever after, til death do you part it’s important not to forget about the other influential man in your life! With Father’s Day just a few days away we are honoring the first love of our lives, our dads : )

There can sometimes be discrepancies as to what the father-of the bride or father-of-the groom should wear during the wedding ceremony, especially if not participating as a member of the wedding party. So, here are a few guidelines courtesy of YourWedding101.com that will hopefully help clear up some of the grey areas.

There is no staunch wedding etiquette indicating how the father of the bride or the father of the groom should dress. However, these men play an important part in the lives of their children and can be represented as so in the following ways:

-Since he is an integral part of the wedding the father of the bride should consider dressing in the same formal attire as the groom and his attendants.

-If the father of the groom doesn’t have an active role in the wedding ceremony - for example he’s not a groomsman - he can still dress in the same attire as the bride’s father, groom and groomsman to symbolize his important role as the father of the groom.

-Both the father of the bride and the father of the groom can choose to dress unlike the groom and groomsmen if they choose to wear their own wedding attire.

-If the bride wants her step-father to walk her down the aisle, or if the groom wishes his step-father to be actively involved in the ceremony, the step-father should wear the same attire as the groom and groomsman. Even if the step-father isn’t actively involved in the wedding ceremony he can still wear matching attire as a symbol of his important role in his child’s life.

-Both the father of the bride and the father of the groom are given matching boutonniere by the groom before the wedding ceremony. The father’s boutonnieres should be exact replicas of the groom’s boutonniere and the groomsmen’s boutonnieres.

Another great option for all of the men in your life, who you would like to stand out as an important part of your big day, is to work within a color palette. By allowing the Fathers of the Occasion to mix and match within your color scheme, group photos will be well coordinated while each member of the wedding party will also look great individually. An example of how you can make this work is with ties. Select a suit or tux for all male members then have the groomsmen wear a different tie than the groom as well as select a different yet coordinating tie for the Father’s of the Occasion. This will allow for a uniform look while still letting each member stand out as an important part of the event.

Vineyard Vines ties are a great option when working with a color scheme…They offer a variety of colors with coordinating patterns!
