Abby + Michael: Cobblestone Hall

This sweet couple had a down to earth, southern wedding. This sweet couple had a down to earth, southern wedding. Michael and Abby decided early that their main goal was for everyone to have fun celebrating their marriage. “We wanted a simple, romantic, vintage look and achieved that using the beautiful Cobblestone venue. We did DIY projects for the wedding to save money, but to also make our wedding unique. It was really important to us to have unique aspects at our wedding such as handwritten table numbers, a handmade guestbook, and handmade cakes. We had the time of our lives!”

And you looked beautiful doing it Abby! The bride wore a unique Blush by Hayley Paige gown.  The lovely lace floor length dress was made with a detachable organza skirt – this way she got two looks with one gown! We thought she made the perfect pick.

Thank you to Jessica Schmitt Photography for the beautiful photos!

Repurpose Your Mom’s Wedding Dress

So often we hear brides talk about the possibility of wearing their mother’s wedding gown – but let’s be honest, every girl wants to pick the dress of HER dreams!  So often we hear brides talk about the possibility of wearing their mother’s wedding gown – but let’s be honest, every girl wants to pick the dress of HER dreams! Times change, as do trends and fabrics, but there are so many unique ways to incorporate Mom’s dress without having to utilize it as your wedding gown. The thought of cutting up an heirloom seems so heartbreaking, but what other reason do you save something so special? Typically it is in the hopes that your daughter may one day want to use it – it may just not be in the way she was thinking! Here are some of our favorite ideas.

Wedding Dress Locket

 Lace Locket Necklace.

Taking a small piece of lace and inserting it in a locket necklace makes the perfect statement and something that you will be able to wear more than once. There are many artists on Etsy who will custom make one for you, you just have to send them your lace! This is also a way to keep your mother or grandmother’s gown intact, but still creating a special “something old”/”something new!”

Lace Hair Flower

 Make a hair accessory.

From the fabric/lace, make a sweet hair flower, or take a section of the lace and use it as a fascinator.

Wrap your bouquet with mom's dress

 Wrap your bouquet.

Use any type of fabric from the dress or veil to give it that special touch.

Ring Bearer Pillow made from mom's wedding dress

Turn it into a ring bearer pillow.

That is something that could be passed down from generation to generation.

Update mom's wedding dress and make it your own

Rework it into a rehearsal dinner dress.

Maybe you don’t want to wear it walking down the aisle, but there are so many bridal events to attend that you could wear it to! We call our seamstress the miracle worker – she can rework a outdated wedding gown into a modern, little white dress. So don’t be afraid to take it in and see what you can work up with your alterations specialist!

Emily Maynard Says “I Do!”

As many of you now know, I had the privilege of working with the incredibly sweet and always beautiful Emily Maynard.  With the help of Ivy Robinson events, Emily planned a surprise wedding in a matter of months! As many of you now know, I had the privilege of working with the incredibly sweet and always beautiful Emily Maynard.  With the help of Ivy Robinson events, Emily planned a surprise wedding in a matter of months! She came to Hayden Olivia about twelve weeks before the wedding to look for a dress. Wanting something different, but to still feel like a bride, so we made her a custom gown through Modern Trousseau.

The process was just that – a process. We started by trying on different silhouettes, styles, fabrics, etc. Once we narrowed it down to the favorites, it was about finding the one that would fit the venue, but still be something fresh and new. There was one gown in particular that was a show stopper on Emily – the fitted silhouette was a no brainer, but we still felt there was a component missing. Knowing she wasn’t opposed to color, I suggested possibly doing the dress in a blush color, when she was on board with that, I knew we were going somewhere special. The last thing we needed to was that wow-factor.

The idea of a detachable skirt was the perfect compromise when trying to decide between a fitted gown and a full ball gown.  The choice of having a “ball gown” for the ceremony and having the ability to remove the skirt for the reception was perfect. It gave her two looks in one, without actually having two dresses. The skirt made her feel and look like a princess, and was just magical in photos.  Complementing that tulle skirt with a full, re-embroidered Chantilly lace gown underneath was such a great element of surprise for her guests. But it also made sense – it enabled her to move around the farm with her guests and dance the night away.

Simultaneously, we designed a custom dress for daughter Ricki as well. She was such a doll and might have enjoyed the process even more than her mom!  For an 8 year old girl,  a bridal salon is every little girl’s dream dress up closet! And dress up she did! Ricki tried on every dress and accessory she could get her hands on – but she knew when she put on “teacup” that it was the one. We thought it would be great to mimic the blush color of Emily’s dress, and adding straps made it more age appropriate. They were the perfect compliment to one another.

Designing a custom gown with Emily and Ricki was a complete joy and I wish them only the best in their new family. Here are a few photos I snapped before they came in to see their gowns completed for the first time.

We are excited to introduce our newest collection at the boutique – Camilyn Beth!

Camilyn Beth Leavitt, most commonly known as “Cami” is a new designer to the boutique world, launching her first collection in 2012. Her passion started in high school when she designed her own her prom dress with the help and guidance of Edna Crowther. She then went on to study at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale majoring in Fashion Design.

Camilyn designs are inspired by the classic 20’s-70’s era with a modern spin. The dresses are fully lined, made with the finest materials in silk, satin, and cotton blends. Each garment’s purpose is to be more than just fabric. Between the local craftsmanship, the story behind the design, to the inspirational quote sewn into each piece, you will feel the love when wearing these pieces.

The line is produced here in the USA, making it a perfect fit for Hayden Olivia Bridal.  Come join us this weekend to view the new collection and take advantage of the goodies that will be offered along with these little white dresses!

There’s so much happiness in these fantastic images of Emily and Paul’s wedding. We love their amazing style, their beautiful laughter and the fun pictures with their bridal party! The bridesmaids’ dresses are so pretty in alternating bright green, one-shouldered and printed styles. We can’t get enough of The Fillmore’s hip, urban look, with high ceilings, cool lighting and gorgeous hardwood floors. Guests were seated in rows of gold chairs for the ceremony and reception tabletops were designed with gold chargers and vibrant florals in a variety of vessels.

Emily fell in love with a one shoulder, hammered silk gown by Carol Hannah. The ease of the gown was the perfect choice for the happy-go-lucky bride. She paired the look with a Modern Trousseau belt and hair piece. Enjoy!

Whether you’re going strapless or backless, chances are your wedding dress will put your upper body on display. Build your body confidence with a workout that targets a bride’s most exposed areas: the arms, shoulders, and back. We reached out to one of Charlotte’s top personal trainers, Michelle Bennett, asking her to advise us on the best arm workouts to “tone those arms.”

We have broken the 12 exercises into 3 Supersets. You can do just one, two, or all three Supersets per workout. Each Superset will have 3 rounds and 15-20 reps per round.  Weight should be 5lbs-12lbs when using dumbbells, 15lbs-30lbs when using barbells, and 12lbs-25lbs on the machines based on your strength.

Michelle also says adding 30 minutes of cardio will increase your results, and if you are wanting to lose weight you should do 45 minutes to and hour of cardio. Weight training should be 3 days a week and cardio 3 to  5 days a week.

If you are really serious, she suggests an eating plan of all fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables along with lean chicken, beef and fish.  And don’t forget to drink half your body weight in water daily!!!!

This is Jess. A beautiful blushing bride placed in a gorgeous rose garden where she married her best friend. Jess knew she wanted to wear something soft and romantic to compliment the venue where her wedding was held. She chose a custom Modern Trousseau dress and adorned her waist with a sweet fabric flower sash. The movement of the silk organza gown was so perfect in the outdoor garden, but even more stunning when putting her ballroom dancing lessons into practice on the dance floor.

The red roses inspired Jess’s color story for the wedding day – we love that she chose to go with a mint green as the complementary color for her bridesmaids. The reception was held at the Mint Museum where the bride and groom danced the night away.

Congratulations Jessica and Sam – may your marriage be as beautiful as your wedding day.
